Blueberries

I was outside after the rain awhile ago and I spotted some ripe blueberries on one of the bushes!!! About 6 of the best ripe juicy berries I have ever eaten! And from my very own bushes in my yard! It just can't get much better than that.

Has anyone else been getting blueberries yet? This bush is a Tifblue, so I guess they are the earliest ones. I also have some Climax and Premier and a Becky Blue.

I am just so happy to be getting fresh blueberries from my own bushes in my yard.

I looked at ours yesterday. I think they need fertilizer. I don't think they are going to produce this year :(
I am happy you are having some blueberries. They are so yummy!

I've been picking a handful off my bushes each day! The kids asked me yesterday when we were going to get blueberries. I fessed up and told them I'd been eating them all but they are welcome to pick and eat what is ripe each day too. I guess they're waiting for me to pick them and bring them in?

Sandra, have you tried mulching them with pine straw too? And some fish emulsion might help. Just a thought.

Kristin, that's what I've been doing. I haven't told anyone here about them. It's my little secret right now. I might let them know later, when there are a lot more. But right now, I am enjoying every single one! This is a dream of mine, to go outside and just pick hand fulls of blueberries and eat all I want. That's really the only way I like them, right off the bush. So get all you want while you can, is what I say!

I bought 3 blueberry plants a couple years ago. We are finally getting the first fruit. It is sooooo good. So much better than the flavorless store bought berries. I have 2 Legacy and 1 Arlen or Arlene, something like that. My Mom and I have been snatching them up every time we walk by and see new ripe berries. But one of the chickens discovered them. So I hope she doesn't strip the plants.

Kimberly, I haven't heard of those 2 varieties. I never heard of the Becky Blue either til I got mine. I bet there are hundreds of different ones. But I just love blueberries and I can't really tell a difference in each one. I know that some bushes have sweeter bigger juicier berries than others though.

And that's why I can't have free range chickens anymore. Too many plants and flowers and bushes and gardens.
